Lucien Johnson has been described as “a saxophonist of the highest repute” (Giles Peterson, BBC). His music has taken him around the globe, touring and performing in the USA, Brazil, Europe, China, Japan, Haiti and India. His last two albums Wax//Wane and Ancient Relics have received rave reviews in the international press with France Musique calling them “bewitching and astonishing” and London Jazz News describing them as “mystical, a touch retro and increasingly spellbinding”.
Winner of the 2021 Apra Amcos Best Jazz Composer and the 2018 Arts Foundation Friedlander Residency in New York, Johnson has been one of the land’s most imaginative music creators in a career spanning over two decades.
He is joined by a stellar cast of musicians:
Jonathan Crayford - piano
Michelle Velvin - harp
William Ricketts - vibraphone
Tom Callwood - double bass
Cory Champion - drums

Saxophone and harp music for your soul.
Duo Eolienne share intriguing contemporary music written for the combination of Harp and Saxophone. Michelle and Genevieve met at Te Kōkī, New Zealand School of Music in 2016 and have been making music together ever since – Duo Eolienne was formed! They first set out performing obscure works written especially for Harp and Saxophone (such as Eolienne by Ida Gotkovsky), taking care to craft programmes that combine the arresting wry and lyrical tendencies of the Harp and Saxophone. Lately they have been writing new music and delving into improvisation, opening up a new sound world to explore. Duo Eolienne marry the delicate balance between string and wind, to effectively cut through the differences in the genres and origins associated with their instruments.
